Health & Safety in Queensland

The Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 and the Dangerous Goods Safety Management Act 2001 sets out the laws about the health and safety requirements affecting most workplaces, work activities and specified high risk plant in Queensland.

Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995
The Act sets out the laws about health and safety requirements affecting most workplaces, work activities and specified high risk plant in Queensland. It seeks to protect your health and safety and the health and safety of everyone at a workplace, while undertaking work activities or using specified high risk plant.

Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2008
The regulation sets out the legal requirements to prevent or control certain hazards which might cause injury or death in the workplace.

Dangerous Goods Safety Management Act 2001
The DGSM Act provides an over-arching framework of obligations and requirements that facilitates a coordinated approach to the regulation of hazardous materials in Queensland.

Dangerous Goods Safety Management Regulation 2001
The regulation sets out the legal requirements for managing dangerous goods and combustible liquids.

Codes of practice
Codes of practice state ways to manage exposure to risks.

Workplace consultation
Workplace consultation actively seeks industry participation by involving employers and workers and having them represented in the decision-making and advisory processes.

Provision Improvement Notice (PIN)
Since 1 May 2009 workplace health and safety representatives can issue a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) in their own workplace.

Regulation of the storage and handling of dangerous goods
