The Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia met today with the Industry Minister Kim Carr and the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Pacific Brands, Sue Morphett and James Mackenzie.
The meeting was convened by Minister Carr and took place in Melbourne this afternoon.
Michele O’Neil, TCFUA National Secretary, said, ‘Our union is determined to fight to save these jobs and we welcome this initial meeting between the Government, the company and the TCFUA.’
Workers from Pacific Brands sites throughout the country have been meeting with the union since the job cuts and have overwhelmingly supported a campaign to fight to save their jobs.
‘We want to see the company and the Government act urgently. We have been receiving enormous support from the general community as well as from workers and their unions across Australia to fight to save these jobs. The likely flow on effect of 1850 jobs gone in this company will be thousands of other jobs lost by suppliers and contractors to Pacific Brands’ O’Neil said.
