What is a DWG?

It is a Designated Work Group that is put in place to discuss OHS matters that affect the people in the group.  DWGs are usually divided by commonalities, such as:

  • the type of job you do
  • the work area you’re in
  • the shift you’re on
  • the language group you belong to.

For example, the machinists may all be in one DWG and the warehousing staff may have a completely separate DWG as their work environments are different so OHS matters may affect them differently.  Each DWG can elect a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) and a deputy.
